Ella smiling in sunny South Africa

Ella has just returned from a two-week holiday in South Africa, where she went to see her friend William and his parents, Tom and Kathryn. After a few days in Cape Town, including a swim with penguins at Boulders beach and a party to celebrate William's christening, Ella went to stay at Churchhaven, where she saw all kinds of wildlife, including hermit crabs, sand sharks, ostriches, owls, a snake, and some surprisingly fast-moving tortoises. She made sandcastles and swam in the lagoon (or "galoon", as she calls it) and had a bath by candlelight since there was no electricity. She then returned to Cape Town, where she helped William with his walking and introduced him to "somali" (salami). While in South Africa, Ella became obsessed with Peter Pan ("I'm Peter Pan!"), mainly because of his ability to fly. She ate huge amounts of calamari, drank Coca-Cola, and got much better at her alphabet. She has become fond of bad puns "(I'm Ella Madeleine Sittage!") and continues to ask increasingly elaborate questions: Where does the sea come from? What is hair for? How does Tinker Bell fly? After declaring in South Africa that "it's never really winter here", Ella has now returned to "cold England".
