At the cinema, by Miles
"I think there's a big telly in a cinema! I see a Polar Express! A train go on a ice! Daddy, what have I been doing? I think my being quiet in the living room! You stuck Daddy! I turned you into a statue -- just like a Tutankhamun! And nothing will stand in my way!"
Christmas is coming, and Miles has been singing. It turns out that he learned a song at nursery, to the tune of Frere Jacques: "Christmas pudding, Christmas pudding, Steaming hot! Steaming hot! Sprinkle on the sugar, sprinkle on the sugar, Eat the lot! Eat the lot!" Miles has also been singing the song from the Snowman (video clip, 12MB, QuickTime required). And he has been watching the Polar Express on DVD. His favourite bit is when the train comes off the tracks and goes on the ice. The film was on at the local cinema, so we took him to see it, and he almost made it to the end before getting bored. The popcorn probably helped. But he didn't last long at "Cinderella", the pantomime at the Old Vic, which was a bit grown-up for him. Also this week Miles went to the Science Museum to see the new Launch Pad, where he made huge bubbles and looked at himself through a thermal camera. He likes playing a new game where he turns Daddy into a statue using a magic spell. He carries his red bus around and repeatedly intones a line from Naughty Bus, a book about buses: "And nothing will stand in my way!". (This makes him sound like a James Bond villain.) And he enjoyed popping bubble wrap with Ella (video clip, 7.4MB, QuickTime required). There is a lot of bubble wrap around at the moment.
